We need Rangemasters and Youth Volunteers to man the Saddleback Day Camp Archery Range. Requirements (training and such) are listed below. This is a great opportunity to give back and help out the younger scouts while earning service hours (and possibly the Archery Merit Badge or Girl Scout Archery Interest Badge).

    This is the training/requirements information:
  • Adult Rangemasters
To serve as an Adult Rangemaster range you must:
    1. Fill out an Adult registration form and turn it in before Scout-O-Rama (May 15).
    2. Be certified as a BSA Rangemaster or as an NAA Level 1 or above coach. For those who need to take or renew their BSA Rangemaster card, we will be doing training on the weekends of June 5/6 and June 12/13 (4 opportunities). Additionally, on June 5th, we will be offering an NAA Basic Instructor course. The training location will be at Oso Lake BSA Camp map_button_002 (schedule on the Day Camp Important Dates Page). There are limited spots available for the Basic Instructor so get your requests in early. The deadline for signing up for the NAA Basic Instructor course is May 28. If you have a valid BSA Rangemaster or NAA Level 1 or above certification, you do not need to attend an archery specific training session although refresher courses never hurt.
    3. In addition to the archery specific training, you will be required to attend 1 of the Adult Training sessions (check the Day Camp website for dates/times).

  • Youth Volunteers
To serve as a Youth Volunteer on the archery range you must:
    1. Fill out a Youth registration form and turn it in before Scout-O-Rama.
    2. Work all 5 days.
    3. You MUST attend an archery specific training session even if you attended one last year. We will be doing training sessions on the weekends of June 5/6 and June 12/13 (4 opportunities). If you are 15 years or older, you may also get your NAA Level 1 certification. The NAA Basic Instructor course will be held on June 5th. The training location will be at Oso Lake BSA Camp map_button_002 (details on the Day Camp website and the archery calendar page). If you are 15 or older and are interested in the Level 1 certification, there are limited spots available so get your requests in early. The deadline for signing up for the NAA Basic Instructor course is May 28.
    4. In addition to the archery specific training, you will be required to attend 1 of the mandatory Youth Training sessions (check the Day Camp website for dates/times).
    5. For Youth Volunteers who work the archery range, we will also be offering BSA Merit Badge and GSA Archery Interest Badge classes for those that are interested. To participate in these classes, you will also need to assist with camp setup and take down. The additional requirements and pre-requisite work sheets are listed on the scout badges page.
    6. Also, all forms must be filled out by the youth who are volunteering (parents, you know what I mean). We look forward each year to watching our young men and women mature through their experiences so let them take the responsibility and grow from it. As for those on the BSA Merit Badge track - all communications from parents will be automatically routed to my trash bin.

  • All Volunteers We need you notify Keith Johnson and myself (@ our main e-mail) of any changes to your availability or further questions.
A final requirement for all volunteers - be ready to have some FUN!!!
Beyond that, we are looking forward to another fun year, so come join us.
